The benefits of using LVT in hotels

When specifying flooring for hotels there are, naturally, a number of requirements to consider as the space usually houses not only entrances and restaurants but also bedrooms and connecting areas. The hospitality industry is also a sphere of fast-paced demand where the consumer now looks for quality and design-led interiors. The floor solutions, therefore, need to satisfy multiple practical needs whilst consistently portraying the key messages of the hotel’s identity.

Luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) are an efficient design solution for hotels combining high-quality performance with outstanding design. Some companies have amazing technology now that means this flooring has come on leaps and bounds improving the designs and laying pattern options. The ability to recreate realistic woods and stones in LVT allows for hotels to create an upmarket feel without committing to huge budgets.

The durability of this type of flooring is perfect for a hotel environment as it works well in high traffic areas and doesn’t suffer from staining, cracking or wear in the way some other floor types do. And as many hotels must adhere to recycling and waste targets, using LVT is a great way at keeping wastage to an absolute minimum as you can opt for tiles rather than rolls, which can be more accurate.

    Entrances

Questions of practicality versus design are best understood when considering the reception or entrance area of hotel. As the first destination for anyone entering the hotel it is important that this makes the right lasting impression. This space needs to convey simply and instantly what the hotel is trying to achieve and its philosophy. It is unsurprising then that the most successful of hotels invest in high-quality design in the entrance areas.

This is the perfect time to play with colour and eye-catching laying patterns. Depending on the other elements of the room you can experiment with vibrant colour palettes for pared-back furniture or deep, luxurious woods that will perfectly complement and contrast a bright scheme.

Looking for flooring with a strong commercial warranty is best for these high footfall environments. It can also be beneficial to consider integrated solutions, where you can seamlessly combine both carpet or entrance-specific flooring. These can be practical solutions to improve the cleanliness of the space or create a zoned area making its key purpose, a waiting area for example, more visually apparent.

We have also seen a big increase in the number of bespoke designs being created for focal areas in the hospitality sector, from intricate laying patterns to specific colours and logos. Dedicated in-house sales, design and manufacturing teams at Amtico work on these projects with clients, helping support with CAD drawings, product selection and production in its Coventry factory.

    Connecting areas

Connecting areas mustn’t be forgotten either. Largely ignored, these areas offer huge design opportunity. Combine materials to create a pattern that has movement within it, this can make a sweeping path design that leads visitors from one area to another. We often work with clients to solves specific challenges – for example, on one project the client wished to recreate the expansive and impressive feel of the original marble corridors of the venue. However, due to material costs and weight restrictions, this would not be possible. LVT provided the ideal solution, giving the ‘feel’ of marble, without being block-coloured or imitating another material.

    Restaurants

Restaurants and bars experience high usage and numerous spillages, so it is key to specify a commercial LVT flooring with high durability. Another benefit is the low-maintenance nature making it easy to clean and maintain. Design and pattern can be again employed well here to highlight the main seating areas for the restaurant.
