The clients felt that the house was particularly large for a small family of three, and wanted to make their new home feel more like a cosy family home whilst maintaining a touch of glamour. The brief focused on beautiful fabrics and elegant finishes. An important factor to this brief was that the interior had to be child friendly which, as you can imagine, can be a challenge in a high-end property where materials can be delicate, furniture shapes more elaborate and the colour palette more natural and light.
Stuart and his team worked with M&Y Interiors flawlessly to create a glamorous feel in the living room. M&Y Interiors wanted a relaxing, warm and inviting ambience, and Decorus’ armoire had to work seamlessly with the chosen colour scheme – which was neutral with dark accents. The tactility of the dark wood inset, with aged bronze resin panels, and the exquisite craftsmanship of the armoire fitted perfectly into the scheme, softening the space and creating harmony.
As the clients wanted a homely feel, that was family friendly, resin was the perfect material choice for this particular project. Resin was used in the construction of the armoires and console tables due to its durable finish that can be wiped down. The colour of resin can also be varied and the texture and level of sheen complements most interior schemes.
The popular Sofia Centre Table was the perfect piece for the entrance hall. Its circular shape works within the free-flowing space and its organic curves create a sense of balance. Its steadiness and lack of corners make it child friendly – as per the brief. The added bonus was that the homeowners fell in love with it straightaway and enjoyed the fact that it has pride of place in the hallway, making it the first thing you see when you enter the property.
Decorus took into account the childproof brief and chose pieces that can be anchored against a wall, away from thoroughfares that are stable on their feet and – as in the case of the Sophia table – have no sharp edges for little heads to bump into. These were decisions that could be made without compromising on style.
Keeping to the brief, Decorus created custom-made Monaco consoles in aged bronze resin, with polished stainless steel details and inset bronze elegant eglomise tops. The two bespoke armoires that were produced for this project had a base frame and handles produced from a hand forged, textured dark satin finish.
The use of luxurious dark woods and bespoke metallic finishes found on these items added to the sense of luxury and glamour requested from the client. They also attributed to create a feel of continuity throughout the project.
Decorus worked closely with the designer and always had the client’s needs in mind when it came to this project. With furniture present in a number of rooms, Decorus incorporated all of its designs seamlessly so that they became a natural extension of the scheme. Having different spaces exhibiting the same quality of craftsmanship helped to create a story throughout the property as a whole, and the glamorous bespoke pieces helped to connect these rooms.
