Lighting is one of the most overlooked elements of interior design, yet it is arguably the most important. There is little point designing a beautiful interior if it cannot be appreciated because of inadequate lighting.

In the last issue of 2017, we take a look at some gorgeous examples of lighting in a vast spectrum of projects to prove how important this design feature is. Inex takes an in-depth look at how Lucent illuminated a shopping centre in the Middle East on page 42, and discovers how public sculpture project, the Arches of Oman, is not only truly stunning during the day but how the careful placement of a series of submerged lights can provide a very distinct vision at night on page 23. The small French production company newcomer, Bloomboom, unveils its first collection of graphic pop lamps, deliberately going against the trend for brass, wood and marble combinations on page 10. And finally, if you’re not quite feeling festive enough yet, turn to page 19 to take a look at the twinkling lights that adorn Claridge’s Christmas tree this year, designed by creative visionary Karl Lagerfeld.

2017 has seen a number of innovations in interior and exterior design and I’m excited to see what the New Year has to offer, including the much-anticipated relaunch of our website!
