The world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian design

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is running this February from 6 to 10th. The fair is one of the world’s largest and most important meeting places for Scandinavian furniture and lighting design.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair organised its first fair in 1951. Since then Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair has grown into what is considered as one of the top-notch furniture fairs in Europe. More than 700 companies, of which 300 are international, gather to present their latest news within furniture and lighting design in the beautiful capital of Scandinavia each year in February.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair runs parallel with Stockholm Design Week, which functions as a meeting place for the industry outside of the fair’s halls. It is also a party for all the design-lovers out there, since many of the exhibitions are open to the general public. Here’s what to expect:

    Guest of Honour

Every year a highly-acclaimed international designer or design studio is invited to create an installation in the entrance hall. Throughout the years the show has had Jaime Hayón, Barber & Osgerby, Patricia Urquiola, Ilse Crawford, Giulio Cappellini and Oki Sato/Nendo as Guests of Honour, to name a few.

    Trend Exhibition

The Trend Exhibition is where a Nordic designer, or group of designers, presents the most recent trends with a focus on materials, colours and shapes.

    Design Bar

The Design Bar is a cross between an exhibition and a world-class restaurant. Every year a new designer/chef duo is given the assignment to create the Design Bar.

    Established

Established is a subsidised zone dedicated to small-scale productions and one-off products, open to all interested design studios throughout the world. The aim with Established is to promote diversity in the industry and encourage the production of smaller collections.

    Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks

Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks is the forum for knowledge and discussions within the area of design and architecture. The Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks programme offers a mix of trend lectures, panel discussions and relevant debates held by well-respected firms and high-profiled guests from around the world.

    Editors’ Choice

Editors’ Choice is Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s award which is handed out to the fair’s Best Stand, Best Product and Rising Star. The jury consists of editors-in-chief from some of Europe’s most influential design forums. In addition to the honour of winning, the winners receive a statue designed by Swedish Designer Lisa Hilland. The award ceremony takes place on the Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks stage on the second day of the fair.

    Welcome to Woodland

Wooden architecture is becoming a new Swedish export item. In 2017, the fair invited Architects Sweden to curate a unique exhibition, on the theme. The exhibition, ‘Welcome to Woodland’, presented a wide range of innovative contemporary wooden architecture and discussed the different aspects of wooden architecture and design.

Seven intensive days and nights, where all of Stockholm is filled with open showrooms, dinner parties, preview cocktails and special events at the city’s many cultural institutions – Stockholm Design Week serves as a meeting place for promoting the furniture and lighting design industry in Scandinavia that extends well beyond.
