Winning an SBID International Design Award is a truly high achievement; all 14 categories were assessed by a technical panel, the public vote and a panel of leading industry experts. 14 categories were introduced at the event and the winners were presented with a crystal SBID award trophy for their outstanding work. Recapturing the ceremony, Inex has listed below the overall winners from each of the 14 categories, alongside the overall winner of the SBID International Design Excellence Awards for 2015.
Overall Winner:
Design Practice: Tinker Imagineers – Utrecht
Project: Juliana Children’s Hospital
Location: The Hague, Netherlands
Over 4000m² of unique graphic wallpaper covers the waiting areas and treatment rooms of the Juliana Children’s hospital. The walls are literally brought to life with moving projections and interactive animations. A magical animated lift shows the children where they are under water, on the beach or in the air.
New Build and Development:
Design Practice: Elena Galli Giallini Limited & Spawton Architecture – Hong Kong
Project: Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu
Location: Chengdu, China
The Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu houses shops, a luxury boutique hotel, serviced apartments and A-grade offices. Juxtapositions of heritage, nature, place and history, were the essential themes for the development.
Residential Project Over £1m:
Design Practice: LSDCASA – Shenzhen, China
Project: Vanke Emerald Riverside show flat
Location: Shanghai, China
The design in the 380m² show-flat represents the multiple cultures inherent in China. LSDCASA has deeply explored Chinese philosophy for this project. Focus was placed on the contemporary living concept and aesthetic-form demand.
Residential Project Under £1m:
Design Practice: YZ ENVIRONMENT DESIGN – Shenzhen, China
Project: Delicacy Embellishing Luxury project
Location: Chengdu City, China
A soft and restrained French rococo style was selected for this exquisite project. The rococo style was mixed with neo-classical characteristics and complied with classical solemnness.

Company: Interface – London, UK.
Over 60 years ago Interface invented the carpet tile, since then it has pioneered innovation in every corner of the industry and this year won an SBID award for its latest revolutionary launch, Microsfera. Microsfera’s impact is around 95% less than a wool/nylon broadloom carpet, and less than half of a normal carpet tile.

Company: Lateral Design Studio – London, UK
An SBID trophy was awarded to Lateral Design Studio for its Linkasink project. Lateral Design Studio’s imaginative designs transform the humble kitchen or bathroom sink into an eye-catching focal point within the room.
Restaurant & Bar:
Design Practice: Hootan & Associates – Irvine, USA
Project: Bosscat Kitchen & Libations
Location: Newport Beach, USA
The design of the project initiated with a vision to evoke rustic farm features in the downtown of a modern city. As a result, the brief involved working with old-fashioned aesthetics and materials to achieve a memorable and glittering environment.
Public Space:
Design Practice: EXCLAIM UNITED CORP – Taipei, Taiwan
Project: Into the World of Art
Location: Taipei City, Taiwan
‘Into the World of Art’ was designed for a private collection and exhibition art gallery. Entertaining friends and displaying collection of artworks was the basic design concept for this project. The design emphasises the creative ideas of green power and environmental protection; possessing both privacy and a taste of life.
Office Space:
Design Practice: Space – Mexico City
Project: Red Bull
Location: Mexico
Space wanted to stay away from all negative connotations of the word ‘office’ and created a space that does not translate into the traditional office. A gym, a game room and a bar as the reception area make these offices a place that is not only fun, but also productive.
Healthcare Design:
Design Practice: atelier PRO architekten – The Netherlands
Project: The Meander Medical Centre
Location: Amersfoort, Netherlands
The overall interior design of the 100,000m² healthcare centre was focused around the patient in order to create a healing environment that improves the wellbeing of patients and medical staff. The layout of the medical centre resembles a village with a central avenue from which all public areas are visible and accessible.
Hotel Design:
Design Practice: Tarh Va Afarinesh Omran Architectural & Engineering Consultants Co. – Tehran, Iran
Project: The IKIA 3 & 4 Star Hotel
Location: Tehran, Iran
As the first airport hotel in Iran, the hotel is developed on a land of 23,000m². At first glance the design is an emergence of colours in Iran’s architecture. The designer courageously overpassed conventional use of neutral colours in decades of Iranian contemporary architecture and challenged the viewer’s eyes by sharp green, purple, red, and yellow colours, starting a new episode of colour melange in architecture.

The client’s goal was to create London’s most spectacular watch room synonymous with luxury and customer experience; an extravagant showroom of the finest Swiss watches. With so many prestigious labels housed under one roof, the design needed to support each brand with equal presence and attention while maintaining cohesiveness throughout the space.
KBB:
Design Practice: Stephen Clasper Interiors – Chertsey, UK
Project: Queen Anne House
Location: Surrey, UK
Stephen Clasper Interiors was approached by the client of Queen Anne House directly through a recommendation. The client’s dream home required the kitchen as a focal point to the build – as this would be the area where the family would spend most of their time together, therefore the area needed to work on a number of different levels for the family.
Intelligent Design:
Design Practice: Snoozebox Holdings PLC – London, UK
Project: The Portable Hotel
Snoozebox is a portable hotel that delivers on-site event accommodation. Bespoke trailers carry six expandable rooms. The rooms transform externally and internally to suit a range of guests; providing a day room and seven different en-suite sleeping configurations within the same space.

Project: 787-9 VIP BBJ Azure
Greenpoint Technologies, a Zodiac Aerospace company, is a Boeing Business Jet aircraft interior completion center. Azureâ’s inspiration began with the love of the 787’s open architecture and large windows, and grew to embed the client’s energy of curiosity, entrepreneurship and adventure.
