When choosing the type of glass for the windows you are installing you will want to consider carefully what you are looking to achieve, for example the thermal, acoustic, and aesthetic requirements.

There are lots of different glass options to choose from, covering a wide range of applications and requirements. For example, bathrooms may want privacy glass. Don’t be misled into having standard types of glass if there is something specialist that needs to be achieved.

It is important not to confuse safety glass and security glass. Safety glass is applied to glazing used to reduce risk of accident and is required on glazing near floor level. Security glass is applied to glazing which is more capable to withstand deliberate attack, such as attempted burglary.

The Sash Window Workshop manufacture all our double glazed units to a published standard which exceeds the standards published by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), the recognised industry body.

The internal window pane of our standard double glazed unit is manufactured using a soft coat low emission glass. This glass reflects heat back into the building. Heat reflecting or low emissivity glass should be clear in appearance and is often particularly appealing to customers in period properties.

To improve insulation further, double glazed units made by The Sash Window Workshop incorporate a thermally efficient spacer bar between the internal and external pane. The cavity between the two is filled with an inert gas and then sealed. Our units comprise as minimum 4mm low-e glass, 10mm inert gas filled cavity or 4mm low iron glass. Our Argon gas units have a C rated energy rating and Krypton units are A rated.
